Well here we are. Almost another year and what do we have to show for it? The three Fs. A flat, a family and lots and lots of fucking. Hehe.
A fuckload of change too is what we also have to show for it. Change that has happened, and change that is on it’s way. I am sat here holding the last few drinks I will have for a while. As of tomorrow I will be cutting my alcohol intake to almost zero. In fact in an entire year (excluding Christmas and new years) I have given myself an allowance of 21 alcoholic drinks.
There is a pretty scary road ahead and I am not sure I am ready for it all as of yet. One thing is though I will take the bull by the horns and ride it all across 2011 into the age of aquarius.
I was upset, at first, that we had decided to celebrate at home. I worked out I had probably been partying on NYE for roughly 10 years. I remember those heady days in the Observatory, downing aftershock and playing video games. Moving onto Bondai Beach for fluff filled banana cocktails and a rotating dance floor. I miss those days, but realise we can’t take them with us. The club scene has changed terribly from the days of partying in 1999 not just like it. I have a photo somewhere from a NYE in 2002 where I was dressed up like Alice from Resident Evil, yet with fluffy boppers on my head. I had the most awesome knee length boots and I think it was then I fell from the podium. I still have the scar. Hours waiting for a taxi, where you would make new friends in line and cuddle strangers to keep warm. Women would never wear the right kind of clothes for the weather. We didn’t care! We were children of the revolution, we had beat the Y2K bug and were rich in friendships.
Sadly, now-a-days, you are more likely to find me fighting dragons behind a keyboard then out slipping down wet steps and waxing lyrical with a bum. The world is a scary place, if you believe the media. But not just that if you are a stranger entering anew into a tavern you are more likely to be met with knife like glares than hugs and laughter. I think this is just me getting old. Not down with the beat – daddyo.
So yes. Ring in 2011. Ring in my changes, and be good and be safe. Yo.
